Frequently asked questions

  • I focus on illustrative and traditional tattoos, but I take pride in being versatile. I think it's important to always try to do the best thing for that particular image. I have a keen interest in all things nature and try to draw inspiration from the Japanese masters - after all, they've been tattooing for 900 years :)

  • Yes, getting a tattoo can hurt. When you are tattooed, ink is injected into the dermis layer of the skin using needles, so there is pain. Most people describe the sensation as a slight burning or scratching feeling.

The pain people experience varies depending on a number of factors, including the location and type of tattoo (for example, how big it is, how much line work is involved), how long the session is and your personal pain tolerance.

As far as the most painful areas on the body are concerned, these tend to be the places you might expect will hurt more, for example the armpits, genitals, arm hinges, etc.

  • Everyone is different, but it always helps if you've had a good night’s sleep, stay hydrated and have eaten a meal before your appointment. Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications. You should also wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being tattooed. If you are prone to drops in blood sugar, bring along a snack like candy.

It's also nice to have the day off, if you can. I personally don't like doing a ton of stuff after I've sat for a tattoo for a few hours and you may want to just rest up.

  • Your tattoo is a wound, so it is really important that you look after it properly so that it heals nicely. I will talk to you about after care during our appointment, but for an overview you can also read my aftercare instructions or watch this short video.

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, getting a tattoo is not recommended. Whilst getting tattooed is safe for most people, pregnancy takes a toll on your body and can lower your immunity generally, which may create a greater risk of infection.

If you have a medical condition or are on any medications, you should let me know during your consultation. For some conditions, you may need talk to your doc to get a tattoo and in some cases getting tattooed is not advisable.

  • This generally depends on how long your session(s) are, noting that most artists charge an hourly rate of between $160 - $200 AUD per hour.

  • No. The deposit secures your appointment but also gets the artist to work on your design, which involves drawing and planning. As such, deposits are non-refundable.
